All non-custody hearings between 23 March 2020 - 1 May 2020 to be deferred

The Chief Magistrate of the Local Court in New South Wales has today announced via memorandum that all local court hearings which do not relate to an accused person who is in-custody bail refused is to be deferred to another date.

If you are a client who has your hearing between 23 March 2020 to 1 May 2020 please contact us immediately to discuss your matter.

Hearings involving people in custody will continue as listed however wherever practical the appearance of the defendant
should be facilitated by AVL.

If your defended matter is one where it is appropriate to negotiate a plea of guilty your solicitor will contact you to discuss. If your defended matter does become a plea of guilty it should be finalised on the day originally allocated for the hearing or at
such later date the court considers appropriate.

The position will be reviewed by the Chief Magistrate's office in the week commencing 27 April 2020. The office has warned stakeholders that it may be necessary to extend the deferral of the listing of defended hearings again.
