The Supreme Court of New South Wales is the highest state Court, which hears the most serious of criminal matters such as murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, major conspiracy, drug related charges and can hear and determine bail applications. The Supreme Court has what is known as ‘inherent jurisdiction’ allowing the Court to hear and determine all matters that comes before it, unless it is restricted by statute. The Supreme Court also has an appellate jurisdiction which is called the Court of Criminal Appeal.
